Recently, Dennis Corporation assisted the Son’s of American Veterans’ Christmas party for children of American Veterans in Port Royal through volunteering and monetary gifts. The Christmas party is hosted by the Ladies of American Veterans’ Auxiliary and sponsored by the Sons of American Veterans Post 70 in Port Royal. The event was held on December 19th from 12-3 pm at the American Veteran’s Post in Port Royal. Dennis Corporation Quality Control Manager, Mr. Jeffrey Barnes serves as the Commander of the Sons of American Veterans Post 70 and organized the event.
The Christmas party is an annual event put on for the children of American Veterans within the Port Royal community. Children have the opportunity to experience the Christmas spirit by talking with Santa Claus, played by a 94 year old World War II Veteran; riding on “Santa’s sleigh” (a trailer decorated for Christmas which was pulled by a Dennis Corporation truck); and receiving Christmas presents purchased by funds from local contributors, including several Dennis Corporation employees. With over $400 in collected donations, Mr. Barnes was able to buy fifty-two gifts for the children.
Mr. Barnes was happy to be able shop for the Christmas gifts for the children with the donated funds and provide the “Santa’s sleigh” ride, which included two trips around Port Royal’s downtown. As Commander of the nonprofit organization, Sons of American Veterans, Mr. Barnes has been a part of the event for many years and said, “Helping with the Veteran’s Christmas Party is one of my favorite parts of the year, I love being able to see the joy on the kids’ faces after riding on Santa’s sleigh or receiving their Christmas gifts. Moments like those are never forgotten.”
