Dennis Corporation was selected by McCarthy Improvement Company, the prime contractor, to provide all construction staking and as-builts for the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport’s New Cargo Area Development. Unveiled in September 2019, the new $33 million commercial cargo facility, will increase air-freight business for the airport. The airport had outgrown its 20,000 square foot warehouse, which necessitated an expansion. The airport began to clear land in 2018 for the new 110,000 square foot warehouse. In addition to the new cargo facility, a 17-acre concrete apron was also constructed. This apron is wide enough to park three Boeing 747’s side-by-side.

In April 2020, a Boeing Dreamlifter delivered around 1.5 million surgical face masks to help combat the COVID 19 pandemic. A Boeing Dreamlifter is a modified Boeing 747 Cargo Freighter (LCF). The aircraft, which was the largest to ever land at GSP, transported around 1.5 million medical-grade surgical masks from Hong Kong, China that was distributed throughout the Prisma Health system. The world’s longest cargo loader is typically used to transport Boeing 787 Dreamlifter components to their assembly plants in Charleston and Seattle. This delivery of vital PPE to South Carolina’s largest healthcare system is one of several COVID-19 transport missions Boeing has undertaken.
