Camp Welfare Roadway Improvements

This project consisted of the rehabilitation and upgrading of Camp Welfare Road in Fairfield County to meet new SCDOT standards and uphold the high traffic demand due to the closure of another major secondary roadway and bridge. Fairfield County retained Dennis Corporation to provide the necessary improvements and changes within only seven weeks because of the impending opening of a large recreational park on Camp Welfare Road. From June 30, 2008, until Aug. 8, 2008, Dennis Corporation widened the existing roadway from 20 feet to 24 feet along 2.8 miles of roadway, creating two feet of paved shoulder on each side. The existing conditions of Camp Welfare Road included severe rough riding conditions, full depth patches, potholes and alligator cracking.
