Dennis Corporation proudly sponsored the Gills Creek Watershed Association Urban Paddle and Picnic Event on June 12. Families were invited to beat the “famously hot” weather of Columbia by spending the afternoon picnicking and paddling on Lake Katharine and Gills Creek.

All proceeds from the event directly benefited the restoration of the creeks, streams and lakes within Gills Creek Watershed, creating cleaner and safer water for Richland County.

One Dennis Corporation employee who believes supporting the Gills Creek Watershed is of the utmost importance is Marcus Sizemore. The environmental scientist realizes that protecting watersheds is vital to the overall health of the community.

“Water is a resource that mankind has taken for granted.  Many of our watersheds have become impaired through our actions as well as our inactions,” said Mr. Sizemore. “The Gills Creek Watershed Association is beneficial in educating and promoting public awareness of these problems and their solutions.  Jessica Artz and her team have done an excellent job in promoting clean water, recreational opportunities, green development and community responsibility.  “

The Gills Creek Watershed Association endeavors to protect and restore the Gills Creek Watershed by uniting citizens, government, businesses and organizations. For more information, please visit www.gillscreekwatershed.org
