President Dan Dennis of Dennis Corporation, was a featured presenter at the South Carolina Department of Transportation’s (SCDOT) Entrepreneurial Development Institute meeting on March 11 and March 12, 2009. This two day seminar was focused on preparing Disadvantaged Business Enterprise’s (DBE’s) to survive within the current state of the economy.

The seminar, “Business Survival In a Struggling Economy,” showcased breakout sessions from a variety of local firms. As a member of the EDI Planning Committee, Mr. Dennis participated as part of a three person panel during a morning session as well as a second session, where he focused on business growth. During the second session, titled “Growing Your Business – Strategic Thinking,” Mr. Dennis presented a PowerPoint slideshow that showcased strategies and advice on where to find work and how to effectively grow small businesses.

Ms. Martha Monjo, SCDOT DBE Coordinator, commented on the success of the two day seminar stating, “Your presentations truly made this a special event this year… The enthusiasm from the participants helped create a great environment for learning.”

Since its inception in 2005, Dennis Corporation has remained committed to providing resources and contributing time to help educate DBE firms on engineering and small business practices. Mr. Dennis expressed the success of the two-day seminar by stating, “I was pleased to have the opportunity to be a part of the EDI Planning committee and share my experiences with growing DBE firms. Our goal is to help these small firms continue to grow during these hard economic times.”
