Dennis Corporation recently participated in the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT)’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) Legal Services Seminar in conjunction with its support of the DBE program. The seminar was held at the office of McAngus, Goudelock & Courie, LLC in Columbia, SC.
Dennis Corporation’s President, Mr. Dan Dennis, PE, PLS, and Construction Services Manager Tim Antley had the pleasure of speaking at the seminar. The SCDOT DBE Legal Services Seminar focused on procurement, construction and engineering issues that involved federal contracts, SCDOT contracts and SCDOT resources and projects. The goal of the seminar was to detail the various aspects in the payment process for a contracted job. Mr. Dennis and Mr. Antley both discussed important topics such as the Prompt Payment Clause, a South Carolina clause detailing the timeliness and provisions of payment between contractors and subcontractors, and the Federal Money Involvement Requirements, a provision of the External Equal Opportunity Manual that ensures all contractors and subcontractors working on federally funded construction projects do not discriminate in employment and contracting practices. Mr. Dennis and Mr. Antley also provided examples of external resources such as Carolinas Associated General Contractors Library, Hispanic Contractors Association, McGraw Hill and South Carolina Business Opportunities (SCBO), which are all places where DBE firms can obtain information on obtaining SCDOT work.
