In 2008, Dennis Corporation was awarded a contract to manage Beaufort County’s 1% Sales Tax Road Improvement Program, a $400 million program. After just two years, Dennis Corporation has successfully managed seventy-five percent of the project.
The completed projects include US 278 Intersection Realignment, US 278 Frontage Roads including Buckwalter Commercial and The Gatherings, and US 278 (Fording Island Road) Street Lighting.
Currently under construction are the following projects: Phase 5A of Bluffton Parkway, US 278 (William Hilton Parkway) Resurfacing, US 278 Frontage Roads including St. Gregory and Plantation Business Park, US 17 Widening of US 21 (Charleston Highway) to Combahee River, SC802 (Ribaut Road) Intersection Improvements, SC802/US21 Widening of Ribaut Road to Sea Island Parkway, and SC802 (Savannah Highway) Widening of SC 170 to Parris Island Gateway.
Projects currently in the design phase include US 278 Widening of Simmonsville Road to SC 170, US 278 Frontage Roads including Tanger 1 Outlet, and Tanger Interconnectivity, SC 170 Widening of SC 46 (May River Road) to Tide Watch Dr., US 21 Boundary St. Improvements, and Northern Beaufort Bypass of Grays Hill to Brickyard Point Road.
The projects, though varied in scope, all follow the same purpose: to improve the road and bridge infrastructure of Beaufort County so that citizens and guests will have the opportunity to enjoy what the County has to offer safely and conveniently for now and the future.
