Dennis Corporation is proud to announce that construction has begun on the SC 802 Bridge and Roadway Widening Project. On August 6 and 13, respectively. Dennis Corporation entered into Partnering Team Charters with the companies involved in both sections of the project. This $48,600,000 project will widen the roadway and construct a new bridge along Lady’s Island Drive (SC 802) and widen the roadway along Savannah Highway (SC 802).

During the charter meetings, the firms involved agreed to work together to provide the citizens of Beaufort County with a quality project, a safe project, and one that is completed within budget. Aspiring to create a project in which all parties could be proud, the firms developed a list of more than a dozen separate goals for the roadway widening and new bridge. The goals for each section of the project, which are included on the attached Partnering Team Charters, focus on protecting workers, creating a model project, completing the project on time and within budget, minimizing the impact on the environment and creating minimal disruption to the motoring public.

Following the charter meeting, Mr. Frank Hribar,  Dennis Corporation’s Construction Manager, expressed his excitement for the beginning of construction for this large scale project. He stated, “Through attending these charter meetings, the assembled teams have exhibited that they are dedicated to providing the citizens of Beaufort County with a quality project. The significant amount of coordination performed up to this point is a testament of the commitment by all team members to successfully complete both sections of this project and the number one reason that a project of this magnitude has been let so quickly.”

The project will include constructing a bridge parallel to the existing McTeer Bridge over the Beaufort River and widening the current two-lane roadway into four lanes. The notice to proceed for the roadway widening was granted August 13, 2009 with an expected completion date of December 26, 2010, and the notice to proceed for the bridge was granted on August 6, 2009 with the expected completion being August 6, 2011.

During this project, Dennis Corporation will serve as the construction manager while also providing construction engineering and inspection and materials testing services for the project on behalf of Beaufort County. Since 2007, Dennis Corporation has managed Beaufort County’s $320 million Transportation Improvement Program. This project is among the 14 projects involved in the program.
