Dennis Corporation Environmental and Charleston Branch Manager, Kally McCormick, was recently selected to present at the 2010 National Association of Environmental Professionals Conference (NAEP) to be held in  Atlanta, Georgia from April 27th to April 30th. Ms. McCormick will discuss navigating the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) through the historic sweetgrass basket making corridor in Mount Pleasant, SC.

The project that Ms. McCormick will discuss at the conference is the widening of US 17 in Mount Pleasant from a four-lane divided highway to six lanes. This highway has over 60 small, wooden stands that men and women have  set up for weaving and selling baskets made of native sweetgrass plants. These stands have been located along this high traffic highway since the 1930’s and are a cultural standard for this historic area of South Carolina.

Ms. McCormick is honored to be selected as a presenter at this conference. She stated, “The NAEP provides great support to so many of us in the environmental field and I cannot wait to share our team’s experience on a project that is helping to preserve this unique part of South Carolina’s history.”

The goal of NAEP is to promote ethics within the environmental industry and to promote knowledge about environmental practices.  NAEP’s mission statement states, “The National Association of Environmental Professionals is a multidisciplinary, professional association dedicated to the promotion of ethical practices, technical competency, and professional standards in the environmental fields. Their members reflect a diversity of employers, including government, industry, academia, consulting firms, and the private sector in the U.S. and abroad.  They have access to the most recent developments in the environmental practices, research, technology, law and policy.”
