Dennis Corporation is pleased to announce that their Survey Division has been awarded a contract to provide surveying for a portion of the United State’s largest interstate project currently under way. Estimated construction costs for the I-73 project are expected to exceed $2 billion.

Dennis Corporation’s Survey Division will be providing preconstruction surveying and right-of-way staking for a 3 mile portion the project. The I-73 project spans over 80 miles through North and South Carolina. A majority of the project consists of 42 miles of new multi-lane interstate facility from Interstate 95 to SC Route 22 passing through four different South Carolina counties: Marlboro, Dillon, Marion and Horry County. “Anyone who has traveled to or from the Myrtle Beach area on a summer weekend knows how desperately the state needs a controlled access route to relieve the congestion along Highway 501. The multi-billion dollar I-73 corridor is the solution and Dennis Corporation is proud to be a member of this historic team,” said Chris Knight, Survey Division Manager for Dennis Corporation.

The SCDOT has planned a four month schedule to complete the surveying and utility location for this 42 mile portion of the project which runs through the low lying areas along the Big and Little Pee Dee Rivers. “Without Dennis Corporation’s use of the most current surveying and mapping technology, including GPS and robotic instruments, the four month schedule could not be met.  We are excited to provide the SCDOT with high accuracy data within an extremely tight time table. By using remote locating technology, we can also minimize the amount of land clearing necessary to collect our data. This is important to concerned land owners within the corridor and also causes no impact on this environmentally sensitive area,” said Knight.

To assist in the funding of this project, a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Study Committee has been established. The committee is meant to study the feasibility and benefits of the construction, operation, maintenance of roads, streets, highways, bridges and tunnels through the utilization of public-private partnerships and ventures.

Dennis Corporation will continue work on the preconstruction and right-of-way survey for their portion of the 80 mile route while the remaining necessary funds are collected.
