Both Dennis Corporation and Mr. Tim Antley, Dennis Corporation’s Construction Services Manager, have been honored with national awards for the 2007 Road Improvement Program in Fairfield County, South Carolina. Mr. Antley has won the Asphalt Recycling and Reclaiming Association (ARRA)’s annual national award for the project and Dennis Corporation has been honored by Roads & Bridges Magazine in its First Annual award for Recycling Projects.

Each year, the ARRA Special Recognition Awards are given to honor public officials and consulting engineers who have made outstanding contributions to the asphalt recycling and reclaiming industry. This year the awards were presented at the ARRA 32nd Annual Meeting in San Jose del Cabo, Mexico. Mr. Antley was recognized at the event and received the ARRA Award for Excellence in Soil Stabilization for his recycling efforts throughout the Fairfield County Road Improvement Program. Grading criteria for the ARRA award consisted of the nominee’s involvement in the project, the history of the nominee’s personal or departmental activities that promoted advancement or acceptance of recycling methods, and the research conducted by the nominee that has advanced the technological capabilities of the recycling method.

The firm, Dennis Corporation, was also recognized for the Road Improvement Program by Road & Bridges magazine as the recipient of their First Annual award in the Full Depth Reclamation category for Recycling Projects. The project will be featured in the February issue of the magazine, which is distributed nationally to engineers, contractors and government officials. The Road & Bridges Recycling Award was awarded to Dennis Corporation based on the cost savings of the recycling method and the challenges of the project. On this project, the specified road construction process allowed for 1,500-2,000 feet of complete roadway construction per day and a cost savings of $70,000 per mile. This method helped to save the taxpayers approximately $3,000,000 during 2006 and 2007 and allowed the County to stretch its dollars further and pave additional roadways while still being environmentally friendly.

As the contractor for the Road Improvement Programs, Mr. John Edwards, Vice President of Site-Prep Inc. of NC, stated, “Tim and the staff at Dennis Corporation have set themselves apart in their advocacy and utilization of road recycling and stabilization processes. Their knowledge and understanding of recycling applications and benefits has been vital in helping their clients meet their infrastructure needs timely, economically and environmentally responsibly.”

This is not the first time the Fairfield County Road Improvement Programs have received national recognition for their innovative use of full depth reclamation. In May of this year, Fairfield County and Dennis Corporation received the American Council of Engineering Companies Engineering Excellence Award for the state of South Carolina and represented the state at the national convention in Washington, D.C. Additionally, many publications have highlighted the Road Improvement Programs, including an article in the April 2007 edition of Roads & Bridges Magazine.

Fairfield County is pleased to receive the continued recognition for these programs. County Administrator, Mr. Philip Hinely stated that, “Throughout Fairfield County’s association with Dennis Corporation, I have been very impressed with Tim Antley and Dennis Corporation’s abilities and responsiveness. I don’t know anyone who deserves it more.”
